About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team in Portland, Maine, to prepare, enter and review general ledger accounting entries and activities using accounting principles and to assist with budget and close processes, and ensure proper documentation to track payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions working in multiple currencies. The Staff Accountant also supports business operations across the company with a variety of clerical and administrative tasks.

Candidates should be positive, team-oriented, resourceful, self-motivated, hard-working, adaptable and results-oriented, with the ability to see the larger picture while focusing on detailed information. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience with the Microsoft Office suite and the ability to support operations virtually.

The Staff Accountant will work with a motivated and dedicated international team to implement renewable energy solutions. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly banking, general ledger, and any other miscellaneous journal entries
  • Enter and pay invoices, review credit card and expense reimbursements
  • Review accounts payable coding and ensure payments are charged to appropriate accounts
  • Post payroll entries in a timely and accurate manner
  • Reconcile banking, cash disbursements, payroll, vendor accounts and other financial accounts as needed
  • Responsible for vendor setup and maintenance, manage W-9s, prepare and file 1099s
  • Prepare and maintain records for fixed assets, inventory and liabilities
  • Reconciles intercompany transactions and reimbursements
  • Work with other departments to ensure proper posting of data as it intersects with accounting including payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Prepare routine tax forms (VAT, GST, etc.), assist in annual tax return
  • Prepares and updates accounting/finance processes
  • Follows internal control policies and procedures
  • Supports the CFO, Director of Finance & Accounting, and Operations Management to successfully and efficiently complete financial projects.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities
  • Completes surveys and censuses
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills and an understanding of corporate finance 
  • Ability to read and analyze general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; strong Excel and Word skills
  • Resourceful with exceptional organizational and attention to detail 

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, required.
  • Experience with ERP systems, Net Suite preferred 
  • 3-5 years of business accounting experience required

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 15 pounds.
  • This position is required to be on-site in our Portland, ME office but does allow for flexibility in the hours.
