Honoring Maine’s Ocean Economy

October is shaping up to be the month of the blue economy in Maine. ORPC joined local organizations for multiple events in Portland to celebrate the state’s ocean industries:
At the Blue Economy Investment Summit, CEO Stuart Davies discussed emerging innovation in the sector, joining a lineup of panelists and speakers that included U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree to highlight the cross-section between heritage industries and climate technology.
The Gulf of Maine Research Institute hosted the British Consulate-General Boston and National Caucus of Environmental Legislators to celebrate industry connections between the UK and Maine. Nathan Johnson participated on a panel where ORPC had the opportunity to showcase our projects on both sides of the Atlantic.
At the State International Development Organization’s blue economy event, ORPC’s Nathan Johnson shared his roles as a multi-generational commercial fisherman, Maine kelp farmer, and developer of technology that draws on the power of rivers and tides to produce electricity (that’s us!), in a keynote that epitomized the bridging of old and new in the economy of our oceans.
We look forward to taking part in more events like this in the home of ORPC’s headquarters in the future.
