ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Developer will play a critical role in identifying and pursuing new development opportunities, leading strategic initiatives, and building strong relationships with stakeholders. This role requires a dynamic and adaptable individual with a strong focus on project development, market analysis, and funding strategies. The Project Developer will contribute to ORPC’s expansion by crafting and implementing innovative development projects across Canada and internationally.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Business Development: Contribute to identify and assess new market opportunities, including potential partnerships and funding sources.
- Project Planning: Develop and manage project objectives, schedules, and budgets, focusing on strategic milestones and long-term goals.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, investors, and community representatives to ensure project alignment and support.
- Market Analysis: Conduct research to analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and regulatory frameworks, providing insights for project development strategies.
- Resource Assessment: Lead efforts in planning and performing site characterization including, but not limited to, hydraulic resources assessments (desktop analyses, field measurements, and data analysis) as well as environmental studies.
- Risk Management: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, ensuring project resilience and adaptability.
- Strategic Communication: Represent ORPC at industry events, delivering presentations and networking to enhance the company’s market presence.
- Funding Acquisition: Contribute to efforts in grant writing, proposal development, and negotiation with potential investors and funding bodies.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including proposals, market studies, and stakeholder communications.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in geography, marine sciences, energy, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in project development within the renewable energy sector or similar industries.
- Proficiency in market analysis, business development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in grant writing, fundraising, and investment negotiations.
- Ability to travel to remote locations for site evaluations and stakeholder meetings.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Project Management tools.
Physical Requirements
- This position is a mix of desk work and fieldwork. While performing desk work, the candidate must be able to spend prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be willing to travel to remote locations, both domestic and international.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- This position is based out of Sherbrooke with the ability to work remotely.
