Job Location: Portland

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team, based out of our Portland or Brunswick, Maine office. The Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, testing, installation, and operation of marine hydrokinetic power systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both technical design work and hands-on field problem-solving, and who wants to contribute to renewable energy solutions for communities that need resilient, locally produced power.

In this role, you will work across the lifecycle of ORPC’s marine energy systems, from mechanical design and analysis through fabrication support, testing, documentation, and field deployment. You may also lead subsystem designs or small research projects while collaborating closely with engineering, project development, permitting, and field teams.

• Design mechanical structures and subsystems using solid modeling, drafting, and mechanical analysis.
• Perform structural, fluid, tolerance, costing, and performance analyses to inform engineering decisions.
• Prepare engineering drawings, analysis reports, test reports, field reports, and other technical documentation.
• Support field and lab testing, installation, marine operations, and hands-on mechanical work.
• Develop statements of work and monitor outside contractor and vendor performance.
• Provide technical input to engineering, project development, site assessment, environmental permitting, and licensing teams.

• Educational Background:
  A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent education.

• Experience applying mechanical engineering principles to the design, analysis, fabrication, testing, or deployment of mechanical systems.
• Proficiency reading and producing technical drawings and communicating technical information clearly.
• Experience with parametric CAD software; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
• Experience with structural analysis, including stress analysis, fatigue, buckling, weld design, and deflection control.
• Ability to write technical proposals and reports in English.

• Python scripting.
• Experience with OpenFOAM.
• Experience with electrical power systems and SCADA, including VFDs, PLCs, inverters, battery systems, or microgrids.
• Spanish and/or French language skills.

This position is based out of our Portland or Brunswick, Maine office with flexible work-from-home options. This position includes a mix of desk-based engineering work and hands-on fieldwork. Field activities may include domestic and international travel to remote locations, work near water, outdoor work in varying weather conditions, walking on uneven terrain, occasional work near moving mechanical parts, and handling field equipment up to 50 lbs.

We are seeking a Regulatory Affairs Manager who bridges the gap between complex science, engineering, and public policy. In this role, you won’t just track compliance, you will be a strategic liaison and a trusted voice, mediating interactions between our engineering staff, scientific agencies, government regulators, and the local communities hosting our projects. • Navigate Global Compliance: Lead the permitting, licensing, and compliance strategies for our global portfolio (U.S., Canada, Chile, and Europe). You’ll interact directly with government agencies and establish robust compliance tracking tools to keep our projects moving safely and efficiently.
• Champion Environmental Policy: Champion the NEPA process and associated environmental assessments. You will develop forward-thinking policy recommendations to streamline and accelerate marine renewable energy licensing across multiple international jurisdictions.
• Engage Communities & Stakeholders: Facilitate transparent, respectful dialogue during public meetings and informal stakeholder discussions. You will ensure local communities are informed, heard, and valued.
• Collaborate Across Boundaries: Work together with our internal engineering and development teams to shape project proposals, analyze market trends, and represent ORPC at major industry conferences and functions.

• Educational Background: A Bachelor of Science (BS) from an accredited university; an advanced degree is highly desirable.
• Proven Experience: 3 to 5 years of project management experience specifically focused on environmental or energy licensing support.
• Regulatory Expertise: Deep familiarity with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licensing process, NEPA, and state-level agency procedures. International regulatory exposure is a major plus.
• Technical & Field Comfort: Familiarity with environmental monitoring fieldwork, complex document preparation, and the ability to balance multiple conflicting project demands.
• Team-First Mindset: A deeply positive, respectful attitude with a full commitment to safety, teamwork, and cross-functional collaboration. Experience with GIS mapping, marine science, or civil/environmental engineering is beneficial, as is on-water and safety experience.

This position is based out of our Portland, Maine office with flexible work-from-home options. You should expect prolonged periods of desk/computer work, the ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally, and the flexibility to travel to conferences and project sites as needed to support our global mission.
